The Reality in Nepal

Nepal's healthcare system relies heavily on out-of-pocket payments — around 54–58% of total health expenditure comes directly from households (based on recent WHO and World Bank data). Government coverage is limited, insurance is not widespread, and many families face impossible choices when illness strikes.

Medicines like basic painkillers, antibiotics, or chronic disease treatments often become unaffordable. Meanwhile, unused or partially used medicines expire at home, and expensive equipment is discarded after recovery or loss. Sanjivani bridges this gap — preventing waste and saving lives through community solidarity.

Why Sanjivani Matters

Tragically, people in Nepal lose their lives or suffer unnecessarily because they cannot access timely medicines or equipment. No official data tracks deaths solely from unaffordability, but the high out-of-pocket burden and stories from communities tell the story clearly.

Unused medicines end up in dustbins or dumping sites; wheelchairs and beds become useless after a loved one passes. Sanjivani changes this — one donation at a time, fostering a culture where the community cares when systems fall short.

Sanjivani is a compassionate community platform in Nepal that allows people to donate unused, unexpired medicines and gently used medical equipment (wheelchairs, crutches, oxygen concentrators, etc.) to individuals and families who cannot afford them.

In a country where healthcare costs fall heavily on households, one person's surplus can become another's lifeline.

When government support is limited, the community steps in. A simple act of donating unused medicine or equipment can prevent suffering, reduce waste, and restore hope. Sanjivani turns "expired in vain" into "extended life" — because every life matters.
